Timeline: 1 week
Due: 3pm Tuesday week 8, term 1
OSC Norms in this LG:
Kea, Pūngāwerewere, Mokoroa, Harakeke
Purpose of our dance
The purpose of our dance is the "idea" behind it. Our idea is:
to emulate, honour and celebrate the mana of our Mana Wahine, Mana Tāne
The expressive qualities we are exploring should reflect the idea of mana. These qualities include but are not limited to:
contrast of sustained and strong energy qualities
use of breath as a reflection of 'life force'
purposeful focus toward our Mana Wahine/Tāne in downstage right, and, our duet partner
The emotion/projection we are conveying is your own interpretation of the following:
prestige;
authority;
control;
power;
influence;
high status;
honour;
spiritual power;
charisma;
holy or sacred.
Self critique before assessment
Task:
1) Film yourself performing the routine
2) Watch it back with your duet partner
3) Take a look at the assessment criteria here and read over the purpose of our dance above.
4) Complete the self-critique worksheet below to get an idea of where you are sitting right now. We can then clearly make goals for what to improve on.
5) Complete the reflection questions at the bottom of this page. Answer these in a new document and submit it alongside your self-critique worksheet.
Remember, you have to get all of Achieved to get Merit. You have to get all of Achieved and Merit to get Excellence.
Reflection:
Which parts in the dance can you improve?
What skills must you develop to make these improvements?
What did you do well?
How was the partnering section? Did it look engaging, safe and did it flow?
How would you describe the contact improvisation section? Did it have flow, connection to your partner, did it have surprising and innovative moments?
Any questions or concerns? Please contact your teacher:
