Minors legally employed in the state of California must have a Permit to Employ and Work (commonly referred to as a work permit). Work permits are issued by the school where the student is enrolled and indicate the duties and location where the work will be done as well as the number of hours a minor may work.
Criteria for issuance of work permits
Students MUST HAVE INTERVIEWED FOR AND RECEIVED A JOB OFFER BEFORE REQUESTING A WORK PERMIT
Must have a satisfactory academic, behavior, and attendance history that includes:
A minimum 2.0 gpa (D grades or better)
An 85% attendance rate for 30 consecutive days of enrollment that includes the period of time before a student requests a work permit and every 30 days thereafter
Positive behavior (no suspensions)
Grades, attendance, and behavior will be reviewed every 30 days. Work permits will be revoked if students are unable to maintain the criteria listed above. (Parent/guardians are notified if students are at risk of having a work permit revoked)
To request a work permit:
Stop by the College & Career Center in the library and ask Mr. Cobb for a work permit.
You will be given instructions once the form is completed.
