Spring 2020

As the academic year is drawing to a close- don't let this be a time when you let your effort go unnoticed. Instead, reflect on all the parts of your school year.... the highlights as well as the struggles. What moments helped you strengthen your abilities? What moments made you laugh? What are you most proud of? When did you think something was too difficult, but you worked your way through it? Remember, the moments in life are not meant to be perfect and it is to be expected that challenges will come our way. This year you had to adjust quickly to a new and unfamiliar learning and social environment. This experience has been challenging in many ways and we hope you take time to notice your inner strength, perseverance, and all you have learned about yourself. Be proud of your efforts and demonstrate your pride by ending your year and finish strong!

Best of Luck to the class of 2024 as you head into high school... WE WILL MISS YOU!!!

Have a great summer,

Mrs. DiBenedetto & Mrs. Massey

During your time as a Brady student the staff has taught you about the benefits of leading with a growth mindset. You have participated in many activities and opportunities which have helped to build your growth mindset and develop more capacity to take on challenges. This important skill has to be practiced in order for it to stay strong!

The last several weeks have given all of us an authentic opportunity to take what we have learned about growth mindset and apply it in our day to day life. Each day you take on with a growth mindset builds your capacity to handle adverse situations and prepares you to tackle future life challenges. Think about how you have handled this time and if you have not been approaching it with a growth mindset...IT IS TIME TO TAKE THE FIRST STEP, and if you have already been using your growth mindset skills, ....STAY THE COURSE!

It is perfectly normal to have a variety of emotions as we are processing so much new information and adjusting to day to day life being much different than we are used to.

While it is healthy to have an array of feelings, it is important that you are aware of how much time you are allowing the thoughts that elicit worry, doubt and fear to circle around in your mind.

Your mind is a powerful tool! Focus your attention on thoughts , truths, and feelings that will have a positive impact on how you feel each day.

You have probably heard "We are all in this together," a lot lately. And while it is true that there are many adults who are here to offer you support during this time, it is important to remember that you also play an important role in contributing to your mental well being.

Practice these 10 strategies from Be Strong Global Coalition often . Remember it is important to make yourself a priority so you can fully show up for others as well.

Right now it may be hard to think and talk about what you are grateful for and what you appreciate. These uncertain times have brought us many challenges and we have had to adjust quickly to big changes . But the good news is that we are more equipped than we may realize to handle change and adapt. Practicing habits of gratitude can offer you so many benefits! Take a moment each day to notice and recognize something you feel grateful for.

As we navigate this unprecedented situation, kindness, caring and compassion can help us through this difficult time. Kindness can help forge human connections, reduce stress and remind us that there is goodness in the world.

It is important to remember that, although we're not seeing each other in person, kindness and character still count. While interactions with classmates are currently limited, it is imperative that kindness, patience, caring and understanding remain priorities for students in their "new normals."

Students should continue to show others kindness whether in person with their parents, guardians, siblings and neighbors, or online with friends. For more information and inspiration, visit the Values in Action Foundation online.

We would love to hear from you! Email us and let us know what simple acts of kindness you have been practicing during this school closure?

Mindful Moments

It is always important to take care of your emotional health, but now it is especially important to be intentional (purposeful) in practicing skills that enhance your emotional health as we are all experiencing new challenges. During times of academic and social stress it is important to take care of yourself. Use these strategies when you feel overwhelmed, anxious or when you need a mental break. They will help you be present, refocused, and more in control!

Mindful breaks help you feel calm during emotional and/or academic stressors. When you need everything to slow down...give these a try!

Wellness & Mental Health eBooks

The mental health and wellness of our students are now more than ever of utmost importance. Last year, thanks to an Orange Schools Foundation grant, the OCSD Libraries were able to provide Cameron's Camp for grades K-5 and Cameron’s Collection for grades 6-12. Both collections offer eBooks with factual information and help to nurture and protect students’ mental health and wellness.

There are a total of 81 published, vetted, and relevant titles available between the two collections, available on the OCSD Library Resources page. The eBooks use a common password, making access anonymous, yet providing data on the amount of use for each title. The eBooks are available 24/7 and can be utilized by multiple users at the same time. Check your email from Miss Lee for log in information!

Taking Care of Your Emotional Health

Social distancing is a way to keep people from interacting closely or frequently enough to spread an infectious disease. Knowing this is our current situation, we also know staying connected with one another is so important! Over the next several weeks all of us will need to be creative about how we connect with our families and friends and take care of our own emotional well being. Brady counselors are going to continue to be available to you and share resources during these challenging times.
