This assignment was to learn about what practices are ethical for a forensic scientist to do. To do this, we thought of things that should be common standards for forensic scientists as well as finding information about real world examples of unethical practices by real forensic scientists. This assignment fit into the unit because it is important for forensic evidence to be handled properly so that accurate results can be received. Unethical practices can cause inaccurate results that may possibly lead to false convictions. Forensic scientists need to be very careful when handling evidence and conducting tests to ensure that they provide reliable information to a case.
This assignment was a little challenging because there are many ethical practices that a forensic scientist should be doing and it was difficult to determine which was most important to include in a brief presentation. I would improve the assignment by adding some background research or maybe some statistics would strengthen our points. I have learned more efficient ways to format information in a presentation so that it is easy to follow and engaging to the audience.
The task of this assignment was to conduct research about a phenemoneon called the CSI effect and present the newfound information in the form of a writing piece. This assigment was assigned to provide a better understanding of how television shows have altered the way people think about evidence. The CSI creates a false narrative for how evidence shoud be interpreted by a jury. Due to this, verdicts are often reached based on preconceived ideas that influence the jurors' decisions.
This assignment highlights my ability to conduct research, incorporate it with prior knowledge, and use it to explain an idea. The assignment represents how things are not always black and white in the justice system or the process that goes on behind the scenes. The CSI effect is one of many things that can alter the way a juror thinks and this effects the outcome during a trial. I enjoyed this assignment because I found the concept very interesting. I thought about how the shows I have seen have affected the way that I think about evidence and the information I learned while completing this assignment was relatable and made a lot of sense.
