Small Groups

Small Group Counseling gives students the opportunity to connect with their peers and share concerns and ideas about a specific issue such as, divorce, friendship & social skills, cooperation, anger management, coping with anxiety & stress, academic skills, and more. Groups are determined by teacher referrals based on what needs they observe in their classrooms/grade levels.

Groups typically meet one to two times a week for 9 weeks. The importance of confidentiality is discussed during all group sessions and is expected to be maintained by all members of the group. This helps ensure the privacy of our students and their families.

One curriculum that I use often in small groups is the Zones of Regulation. Self-regulation is something everyone continually works on whether or not we are cognizant of it. We all encounter trying circumstances that test our limits from time to time. If we are able to recognize when we are becoming less regulated, we are able to do something about it to manage our feelings and get ourselves to a healthy place. This comes naturally for some, but for others it is a skill that needs to be taught and practiced. This is the goal of The Zones of Regulation (or Zones for short).
