Individual Counseling

Children often experience problems with friendships, schoolwork, relationships with others, anxiety, and many other situations that may affect their performance at school (or at home). In individual counseling sessions, students can discuss their problems openly and honestly with an objective, caring adult. I work with students to explore their concerns, make plans & set goals, and work toward accomplishing those goals.

I typically see students once a week for 4-6 weeks, depending on the severity of their concerns and what our goals are. Sometimes I may only see a student once or twice if the concern is regarding a specific situation or event. Referrals to other agencies will be made when appropriate - if a student needs more in-depth counseling, or if the student needs support for a longer period of time. Confidentiality is extremely important to the counseling process and is carefully maintained!

Individual counseling is my favorite part of my job!! I love having the opportunity to spend time getting to know students in a one on one setting!

A student can be referred for individual counseling by teachers, administrators, parents, and other staff members...or a student may refer him- or her-self!
