Winter Drumline
Select "Advanced Band (Drumline)" in Q to sign up for Winter Drumline!
Winter Drumline is a semester-long, 8th-period class that offers PE Credit.
The Oak Park High School Drumline is a group made up of two sections: Battery and Pit.
Pit, also known as the Front Ensemble, is the non-marching section at the front of the field consisting of mallet and auxiliary percussion (and sometimes synth, electronics, guitar, and bass guitar).
Battery is the marching percussion line consisting of snare, tenors, and basses (and sometimes cymbals). They perform cadences at special events and mini-shows at school rallies.
You can be a member of the Oak Park Drumline for both fall and winter sports seasons! For the fall, select Advanced Band (Marching Band) and at band camp, join either the Pit or Battery section. For the winter, select Advanced Band (Drumline). You will be contacted about the season from there.
It is required that you must be enrolled in a year-long music class to participate in Winter Drumline. To enroll in these classes, select either Wind Ensemble, String Orchestra, or Choir in Q.
No prior experience is necessary! We welcome people from all levels of skill. Anyone who wants to learn percussion can find a place as part of our growing family!
Frequently Asked Questions:
What are the requirements to join?
You only have to be signed up for one of the three during-school music classes! You do NOT need to be signed up for Marching Band to join Winter Drumline and vice versa.
Do I need any prior percussion experience?
Nope! While it would give you a head start, we will help anyone who wants to join! You do not need to be a concert percussionist to join either.

What if I don't know what instrument I want to play?
That's no worries! Drumline is composed of many different instruments between Pit and Battery, and you can always ask one of the captains or coaches for guidance on what you want to play. Try searching up some of the ones you would be interested in, but don't feel pressured to make a decision before the season starts!
Do I need to purchase my own drumline instrument if I join?
Nope! All of the instruments used are owned by the school and distributed after auditions. Some instruments need mallets or sticks to play, but many of those are school-owned as well. If you want extra practice without your drum, drum sticks and a practice pad are recommended.
What are some of the things drumline does outside of competitions?
Battery gets to perform at Future Freshman Nights, school rallies, Basketball games, and play cadences with the rest of the band at rallies. Both sections will get to participate in floor painting (a fun activity to design the tarp used for marching) and bonding events hosted by the section leaders. We also have fun little traditions in each section, but we won't spoil those for you!
