As I reflect on today’s class, I am struck by the importance of adapting my teaching methods to meet the preferences of my students. This reflection will summarize the feedback received, propose changes, and discuss my outlook for the upcoming assignment.
Feedback Overview
In today’s session, students provided valuable insights that highlighted their learning preferences:
They prefer to complete preparatory work, such as drafting proposals, as homework rather than in class.
Students expressed a desire for smaller groups of three instead of four to facilitate deeper discussions.
They suggested starting group work with online commentary through shared Google Docs, allowing for guided discussions.
Proposed Changes
In response to this feedback, I plan to implement several changes:
Homework for Preparatory Work: I will assign proposal drafting as homework and dedicate the first part of our class to a focused lecture on integrating ethics and data management plans. This structure allows students to engage with the material independently and come prepared to discuss.
Smaller Groups: I will organize students into groups of three. This adjustment is expected to enhance participation, as each student will have more opportunities to share their ideas.
Online Commentary: I will encourage the use of shared Google Docs for initial commentary on proposals. This method will help students prepare for class discussions, creating a more collaborative environment.
Looking Forward
For the next assignment, I am considering a pitch competition format. This approach could invigorate student engagement and encourage creativity while still requiring them to meet the essential components of the assignment. I look forward to seeing how these changes will enhance their learning experience and the quality of their proposals in the coming week.
