How to Pair the micro:bit

  1. Connect the USB lead to the USB interface on the micro:bit. Plug the other end into the USB port on your computer.
  2. Wait until the micro:bit appears as a drive on your computer.
  3. On an open project, go to the cog at the top left corner of the window and click 'Pair Device'
  4. A window will pop up with instructions of how to pair your device. Click the big green 'Pair Device' button.
  5. Another window will now pop up where you can select (click) on the name of your mico:bit. Then click the blue 'Connect' button.

You can now use the Download button to transfer your program to your micro:bit.

The save button will download the hex file of your program to your computer. This is good if you wish to use the file on other computers or if you wish to transfer the file to your micro:bit by hand (dragging and dropping).

Having trouble Pairing your micro:bit?

If your micro:bit will not pair with the MakeCode make sure your micro:bit has the latest firmware on it, and you have a good USB lead. More information can be read on the micro:bit website.

Alternatively:

  • download the hex file to your computer and drag it and drop it onto the micro:bit drive.
  • Windows 10 users can install the MakeCode app!
