Types of question on the Reading Paper
(1) Choisissez les trois affirmations vraies.- Choose the 3 correct answer. This is a true/false activity where you put in a cross in the boxes next to the three true sentences in a list of more than three sentences. Make sure you put exactly 3 crosses.
(2) Trouvez les mots qui ont la signification suivante - Find the word or expression that means the following. This is a synonyms activity where you need to find a synonym in the text that means the same as the word given. Normally the question will tell you where to look, paragraphe 3 - paragraph 3 for example.
(3) Répondez aux questions suivantes- Answer the following questions. A straightforward question requiring a written answer, normally a short phrase or even a single word, not normally a full sentence answer.
(4) Choisissez la bonne réponse - Choose the correct answer. A multiple choice question requiring you to select the correct answer from four options by writing the letter of your chosen option in a box.
(5) Choisissez la fin appropriée de la liste pour terminer chaque phrase - Choose the appropriate ending from the list to complete each sentence. A multiple choice question requiring you to select the correct ending to a sentence. You will need to look at the grammar as well as the meaning.
(6) Choisissez un titre approprié de la liste pour remplir chaque blanc dans le texte - Choose the appropriate heading or sub heading title for each paragraph in the text from a given list - A multiple choice question requiring you to select the correct sub heading or heading for a certain number of paragraphs in the passage.
(7) Les mots suivants du texte, quelle signification ont-ils ? Reliez chacun des mots du texte avec son équivalent. - What do the following words mean? Connect each word in the text with its equivalent. A multiple choice question requiring you to match up a word found in the text to its synonym given in a list..
(8) Trouvez les mots qui complètent les phrases suivantes. Utilisez les mots tels qu’ils apparaissent dans le texte - Find the words that finish the following sentences. This question type requires you to find words or phrases from the text and copy them directly to finish the sentences given to you in a logical manner.
(9) Choisissez le mot approprié dans la liste pour compléter chaque espace dans le texte suivant - Choose the correct word from the list to fill in each gap in the following text. In this question type you are given a list of words, often these words are prepositions, pronouns and articles, and you use some of them (you will be given too many words in the list) to fill in the gaps in the text.
(10) Les informations suivantes sont soit vraies, soit fausses. Cochez [/] la bonne réponse et justifiez votre réponse par des mots du texte. - The following sentences are true or false. Write a [/] next to the correct option and then justify it using words as they appear in the text. The two parts are necessary to obtain one point. This is a true/false activity with written justifications using words from the text. You have to write a justification for every question, not only the false ones, but the true one too.
(11) À qui ou à quoi les mots soulignés font-ils référence ? Répondez en utilisant les mots tels qu’ils apparaissent dans le texte - To whom or to what do the underlined words refer to? This question type gives you a word from the text that is underlined and tells you what line from the text the underlined word is from. You need to write in words what it refers to. An example would be to find out what the 'le' refers to in the phrase 'je le fais'. By reading the text you could find out that the word 'le' refers back to the previously mentioned 'le sport'.
