Why we do Quest Week?
To try new things.
To develop social skills.
Face challenges and learn the value of hard work.
To build character.
To foster independence.
Quest Week is about learning beyond the classroom and the ‘normal curriculum’. Students extend their minds and bodies in ways not usually experienced in a normal week. Students learn to work together, to see the world in different ways, and to broaden their own horizons. For our students in Year 12 and 13 in particular, emphasis is placed on developing Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) as part of their core Island School and IB Diploma experience.
Island School’s Quest Week is a compulsory part of the Island School curriculum. Every year (usually during late October or early November), the normal school curriculum is suspended for a week to provide students with a wide variety of challenging experiences that further their personal growth and development, as well as create opportunities for them to support each other and the local community. These activities change young people. They change attitudes and motivation, relationships within school and provide powerful learning opportunities. Ultimately, we want our students to make a difference to themselves and in the world.

Even on the local trip intercultural understanding can be developed. This program aims to give students an appreciation of the difficulties facing groups who are culturally excluded in Hong Kong, and makes the case for creating a harmonious and tolerant society. This is done through interacting with our own students on camp as a prefect, with work placements, refugees and ethnic minorities, members of disadvantaged communities.
