Dr. Brown launched his career in education in 2002 as a substitute teacher in the Scott County School District while completing his degree in elementary education. After graduation from TTU, he was hired in 2006 as a teacher's aide at Oneida Elementary School. In 2007, he transitioned to teaching fourth-grade math and reading, a role he held until 2013, when he was appointed assistant principal at OES. His leadership journey continued in 2016 when he was named Assistant Director of Schools.

At the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET) National Conference in Washington, DC, Dr. Brown was asked to participate in an on-camera interview to discuss Oneida's ongoing partnership with NIET. Dr. Brown highlighted NIET's impact on instructional practices in the district and how NIET's structures and methodologies have positively impacted student outcomes.
Members of OSSD's district and school-level instructional leadership teams attended the conference to gain new insight and methods to improve the quality of education offered at Oneida. The conference provided the opportunity to interact with educators from across the nation to see what's working in other districts.
Members of the district's Instructional Leadership Teams attended the NIET National Conference in Washington, DC, in March 2025.
This conference allowed the team members to interact with educators from across the country and learn new strategies for improving the quality of instruction in our classrooms.
Dr. Brown completed the Tennessee Certified County Finance Officer (CCFO) training program provided by the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury & the County Technical Assistance Service (CTAS) in September 2023. This program consisted of eleven, 8-hour courses covering a wide range of financial-related topics to improve awareness and fiscal responsibility in government finance. https://www.ctas.tennessee.edu/training/ccfo
