Project #1: Who Am Eye
Up to 10 or more points, depending
Materials: 11 X 18 Paper, Coloring Pencils/ Paints/ Drawing Pencils/Markers.
Your Task: You will be creating a self-portrait, but only with your EYE. The finished project needs to show your eye PLUS have elements within in or around it that tell the world who you are: your likes, where you're from, what's unique about you, etc.
Parameters:
Must be on large paper (11X 18 or larger)
Must use the whole page (but there can be intentional negative space if used for a purpose).
Must include at least one eye (yours).
Must include at least THREE things about you, either in pictures or artistically-drawn words or both.
Project #2: Comics 3-Cell Process
Up to 15 or more Points, depending
Materials: 11X18 paper/cardstock, black markers, colored pencils or colored ink/markers/pastels.
Comic books are collaborations between the writers of the stories, and the artists who make the images. Often, an artist will sketch out the cells (squares of a comic book), then add the black bits, and then an inker--a person who specializes in adding the colored ink--will finish the image, as shown to the right.
Your Task: You will be drawing 3 cells of the same image, showing each stage of this process (once you finish the first image, you can make photo copies for the others so you don't have to start from scratch).
First image: just a pencil sketch of what the cell will look like; detailed, but not finished.
Second image: black and white finished image, with the blacked-out sections common in comic books and white negative spaces.
Final image: Same black and white image as the previous, but with the negative spaces "inked" in (using whatever materials you wish: colored pencils, colored ink pens, markers, watercolors, etc.)
All three images should be displayed on a 11X18 Heavy paper/posterboard (or larger).
You do NOT need to have captions for your images, but if you wish to include that's okay!
You are drawing just ONE cell three times, not an entire panel or page of a comic.
The comic MUST BE ORIGINAL TO YOU. You can make up your character(s). All of each cell should be used.
Project #3: Comic Strip
Points depend on number of cells, materials, and how finished your work is. We will discuss individually. Basic idea: 4-6 points per page, depending on number of cells and arrangement of cells.
Materials: Any size good paper or posterboard. Black marker. If you choose to have your comic in color, any materials can be used to "ink" your comic.
The comic strip must be original! It's your own story, with or without words.
The more complex the cell arrangement on the page, the more points.
Project #4: Torn/Cut Paper Art
5-20 points, depending on difficulty, effort, and included elements.
Materials: Heavy/Medium paper, posterboard backing (perhaps), paints/markers/colored pencils (perhaps).
Torn/Cut Paper Art looks amazing but is tricky to do. To make a layered design, you have to plan each step and find a way to add depth between layers (several ways this can be done).
You may choose to add a painted design, but notice that paint/ink is a focal point, NOT throughout the entire project. The majority of the project should be the paper, itself.

Project #5: Graffiti Name Tag
10 points
May 27
You will be making an 11 X 18 Graffiti-style name art, using your own name and any (school-appropriate) symbolism you wish to add to it.
Use a pencil for your draft, then a black sharpie, then any materials you wish to color. Pastels work great because they can be blended, like spray paint is on elaborate graffiti.

Project #6: My Skateboard
10 points
May 27
On posterboard, draw a large skateboard deck shape (ask me for a template). Then, personalize the deck to reflect you, your likes, your style, your goals, your music, your gaming, your family, whatever.
Draw in pencil first, THEN use Sharpie and markers/pastels/paint/colored pencils.
When you're finished, cut around the outside.

Project #7: Choice Art
8 points
May 27
You get to choose what to draw and what materials to use.
Required parameters:
Fill the whole page (11 X 18), but intentional negative space is allowed.
Clear the topic and plan with the teacher before you start.
Must be original--you can use reference photos to help you with parts, but not another artwork. You can draw from life or completely from your imagination.
Must be school-appropriate topic matter.
Can include letters/words, but does not need to.
Project #8: My Mask
5-10 points:
You will create a mask (to wear or to hang on the wall) that represents YOU.
Required Parameters:
Use at least 5 media types (paper, wood, cardboard, metal, straing, textiles, paint, pastels, ink, etc.).
Make it so it can be worn on your head or hung on the wall easily.
Be symbolic more than representational: it does NOT have to look like you. Or even human.
Can include letters/ words, but that is not required.
Project #9: Typographical Art
5-10 points
Media: Paint, Ink, Markers, on canvas or heavy paper, suitable for hanging up.
You will create a recognizable image (person, animal, landscape) using words as the lines of the drawing/painting.
The words you use can be from a song you like, a book you like, poems you like, or original words YOU write.
Project #10: Letter Project
Points vary depending on materials, effort, and difficulty: 5-10
Materials: paper/canvas, paint/markers/ink/colored pencils.
Your task is to choose a letter of the alphabet, and create an artwork that depicts FIVE (5) things that begin with that letter.
Because this is a project and not a sketch, you need to make it worthy of hanging up and showing off. Take your time.
