IDR Your child should have a novel to read each day from the library, home or class library for Individualized Daily Reading in reading class each day.
Freckle online reading program will be adaptive at your child's reading level, and we will use the program a few times a week in class for 20 minutes. Students are currently making goals in reading class and they will start focusing on that area in reading so they can improve using this reading program.
STAR testing in reading this week!
Class Novel: Walk Two Moons Students will be introduced to new vocabulary and comprehension questions for each chapter in the book. This is a Newberry award-winning novel that takes place in Euclid, Ohio. The main character, Sal is forced to move to Ohio with her father after her mother leaves. Sal meets many new interesting people but is still searching for her mother. Her loving grandparents take on a trip to Idaho in search of her mother. Along the way she learns about life and herself and tells another story within her own story.

Making Meaning: Richard Wright and the Library Card and Uncle Jed's Barbershop Historical fiction stories, students will make inferences about the story's plot, setting, and characters. They will also explore the social and ethical issues in the stories.
We may use the site ReadWorks.org to complete reading passages and comprehension questions later in the year. More information to follow if needed.
