4th Card-Marking
In reading this card-marking, students will begin reading the award-winning novel, Bud, Not Buddy. They will continue writing in their Reader's Notebooks when discussing comprehension strategies- such as questioning, and becoming aware of making inferences during reading. Students will also focus on the elements of character, setting, problem/conflict, events in the plot, and theme within the novel. We are focusing on decoding and fluency as well as we read- aloud in class.

Students need to continue bringing their library books or another novel for silent reading (IDR) each day, however we are finished using reading logs for homework this last card-marking. Students will continue to have a small amount of reading throughout the week as homework, as well as reading comprehension and vocabulary quizzes. Please see the Daily Homework tab for daily assignments/homework.
STAR test results to come home soon!
In Making Meaning, students will hear poems and write their own this week and will need to bring their workbooks to class as well.
Freckle reading online will continue this week for independent reading at each students individual reading level. If your child is absent, please have them read in Freckle ( on the website ) and work in "Skills Practice".
The class will continue reading independently -IDR, Individualized Daily Reading, while conferencing with the teacher a few times a month. Your child will be accountable for bringing their library book to class during this time. During their scheduled library time, your child will have assistance in choosing a book that is at their independent reading level, or they may borrow a book from my classroom library. They will need to return a book to our classroom library in order to take another one.
As part of their reading homework in 1st-3rd card students will fill out a Reading Log at home which will be due every Friday. Twenty minutes of reading from an appropriate book of their choice each evening is required with a parent signature. :) This is an easy and fun way to continue growing as a reader, and hopefully really learn to love reading.
We may be using the site Readworks.org to complete reading passages as the year progresses. Students may be responsible for reading stories and articles and answering comprehension questions. Below is the class-specific login, should they need it.
