Ameliorate is to improve, or make a bad condition better. We can ameliorate a pandemic by washing our hands well and our desks.
Saline means salty. Gargling with a warm saline solution might help ameliorate your sore throat.
Salinity is saltiness. the salinity of the ocean helps swimmers float.
Amelioration is improvement. The amelioration of the world's problems depends on our doing something about them.

Tangible means capable of being touched. Concrete nouns are generally tangible while abstract nouns are not

An arroyo is the bed of a stream, or a gully. An arroyo is also a small river or stream. Lizards and horned toads now live in the dry, sandy arroyo carved out by running water.
An atoll is a circular coral reef rising above and surrounding a lagoon. Soil built up on the atoll, and plants began to grow, eventually creating an island.
The Tropic of Cancer is an imaginary line parallel to the equator at latitude 23 degrees north, that marks the northernmost border of the area called the tropics, or Torrid Zone. Central America is in the tropics, for it lies north of the equator and south of the Tropic of Cancer

Irrelevant - means not pertinent; unconnected. Information about polar bears is irrelevant to a study of New Mexico.
Meteorology is the study of atmospheric conditions, especially relating to weather. According to the meteorology report, hurricanes are formed off Florida's coast.
Ornithology is the study of birds. The ornithology book contained information about Western birds - their nesting, eating, and migrating habits.

Amphibian is an animal that lives both on land and in water. Frogs, toads, and salamanders are amphibians.
Arboreal is an adjective meaning treelike or living in trees. Monkeys and squirrels are arboreal animals.
Genteel means polite and well-behaved; refined. The genteel dinner guest displayed good table manners, spoke courteously, and treated everyone with respect.
Gentility is the refinement and courtest of a person who was taught good manners. Because of his gentility, people generally liked him, and he received many promotions in his place of employment.
Industrious means hard-working. My industrious brother bathed the dog, mowed the lawn, and mopped the floor today.
Indolent means lazy. Indolent employee just sat, watching others do all the work.

Feline is an adjective meaning of or relating to cats or the cat family. Lions, tigers, and leopards are feline animals.
Canine is an adjective meaning of, relating to, or resembling a dog. Wolves, foxes, coyotes, and jackals are canine animals.
Equine is an adjective meaning of, like, or relating to a horse. The equine division of the parade featured two chestnut Morgan horses and a black stallion.
Bovine is an adjective meaning of, like, or relating to a cow or cattle. Oxen, antelopes, and cows are bovine creatures.

Plausible means apparently true; believable; likely. Roger's explanation is plausible. I believe it.
Implausible means not believable; unlikely. The child's wild story seemed implausible. I didn't believe it
Tolerable means bearable or moderately good. The cold weather was tolerable because we had warm clothing.
Intolerable means not tolerable; unbearable; unable to be endured. The extreme heat in the desert was intolerable.
Benevolence is kindliness and generosity. Her benevolence causes her to help those in need.
Benevolent, an adjective, means desiring to do good. During hard times, I appreciated his benevolent acts.
Week 14 words
Malice, a noun, is a desire to cause injury or pain to another, evil intent. Full of malice, the villain took pleasure in the hero's misfortune.
Malicious, an adjective, means showing malice or resulting from malice. A malicious person seemed to enjoy other people's pain and suffering.
Literate means able to read and write. Most of the townspeople are literate, they can read the ballot and vote for the candidate.
Illiterate means unable to read or write. Terry teaches illiterate people to read and write.
Momentary means lasting only a short time. When the mosquito bit me, the pain was momentary.
Momentous means of great importance or consequence. The child's birth was a momentous event.

Frugal: avoiding waste; saving; economical. The frugal student always uses both sides of the paper
Extravagant: wasteful. Unfortunately, the small business ran out of money because of the extravagant purchases of unnecessary items.
Paternal: relating to, or like a father.
Maternal: relating to, or like a mother. The bear's maternal instincts caused her to protect her cubs
Prudent: having or exercising good judgment; wise; cautious
Imprudent: lacking prudence; unwise. The imprudent king oppressed the poor and ruined the land.
Week 12 words
Dogma is a formally stated belief, religious or non-religious, that is viewed as authoritative.
Dogmatic is an adjective, does not refer to an automatic dog; rather, it refers to stating beliefs or opinions in an authoritative and often arrogant manner.
Tangible means capable of being touched.
Intangible means not capable of being perceived by the sense of touch.
Cognizance is knowledge or perception.
Cognizant means having knowledge; aware.
