Our Aims in Year 9Â
The RS department aims to create a culture of success, where pupils take a keen interest in religion and belief, benefitting from an engaging curriculum which helps them to become ever more autonomous learners. This will help them to strive to develop both academically and spiritually. Our Year 9 Learning aims to provide pupils with an understanding of Human life's importance and origins, the unique and often misunderstood role of women in salvation - particularly Mary, the ways in which Jesus calls us to be disciples, forgiveness and how it should be understood, the concept of sainthood, and interfaith dialogue between Islam and Catholicism (requiring an understanding of Islam's core tenets). This learning provides pupils with important information on the beliefs and practices within Catholicism, as well as knowledge of other faiths and the dialogue between these, in line with the Catholic Bishops of England and Wales' Curriculum Directory - and considers these areas through the lens of the 7 Themes of Catholic Social Teaching.
Staff seek to promote knowledge and understanding of Catholic faith and life, as well as an appreciation and respect for the beliefs, traditions and views of others. We aim to foster appropriate attitudes in our young people for example respect for truth, respect for the views of others, awareness of the spiritual, of moral responsibility and of the challenge of living in a multi-cultural, multi-faith society.
