Our Aims in Year 8Â
The RS department aims to create a culture of success, where pupils take a keen interest in religion and belief, benefitting from an engaging curriculum which helps them to become ever more autonomous learners. This will help them to strive to develop both academically and spiritually. Our Year 8 Learning aims to provide pupils with an understanding of Christian salvation - by going from the Old Testament prophecy and contextualising it with important understandings on Judaism, through the life of Jeuss and promise of His death, to eventually our own. Additionally, pupils will consider some of the Eastern, dharmic religions present in the UK today, namely Hinduism and Sikhi. This learning provides pupils with important information on Christianity and its Jewish origins, as well as knowledge of other faiths and the dialogue between these, in line with the Catholic Bishops of England and Wales' Curriculum Directory - and considers these areas through the lens of the 7 Themes of Catholic Social Teaching.
Staff seek to promote knowledge and understanding of Catholic faith and life, as well as an appreciation and respect for the beliefs, traditions and views of others. We aim to foster appropriate attitudes in our young people for example respect for truth, respect for the views of others, awareness of the spiritual, of moral responsibility and of the challenge of living in a multi-cultural, multi-faith society.
