Response to State Health & Safety Requirements

Below detail the main points listed on the Governor’s “Health and Safety Guidance for Ohio K-12 Schools.” The bulleted points below each blue heading are specific precautions and protocols that OLMC has implemented for enhanced health and safety precautions for our students and faculty.

Vigilantly Assess for Symptoms

  • Parents self-check their children daily and keep them home if they are presenting any symptoms (see here https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/symptoms-testing/symptoms.html for list of symptoms as defined by CDC).

  • Anyone entering the building will have their temperatures checked. Students presenting fever of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher will not be allowed to enter the building and will be sent home.

  • Students presenting fever will not be permitted to return to school until they are 3 days fever free (72 hours) without fever reducing medication.

  • When a student/teacher/staff in school is suspected of having symptoms during the school day, they will immediately be isolated and screened.

  • A student being sent home for symptoms must be picked up within 30 minutes of the initial phone call by the school nurse or administrator.

  • We are relying on parents to follow these protocols so the school may remain open.

Wash and Sanitize Hands to Prevent Spread

  • Improved access to restrooms for hand washing throughout the day.

  • Hand washing prior to eating.

  • Hand sanitizing stations throughout the building.

  • Approved hand sanitizer available for use in each classroom. No personal hand sanitizer will be permitted to be used during the school day for safety reasons.

  • All students sanitize hands when they enter the building, enter or re-enter the classroom, as they leave the classroom to transition to another classroom or space, after each meal, after any type of sensory activity, play, art activity, or after sneezing/coughing on hands or using a tissue, and after recess.

  • If a staff member enters any room, they must wash/sanitize their hands before entering.

Thoroughly Clean and Sanitize School Environment to Limit Spread on Shared Surfaces

  • Classrooms and all learning spaces thoroughly cleaned and disinfected daily, five times per week.

  • Classrooms deep cleaned once per week, or more as circumstances demand.

  • Restrooms cleaned at least two times during the day.

  • Desks are wiped cleaned by the teacher at the end of the day using approved disinfectant, as well as any other time at teacher discretion.

  • Enhanced Morning, Mid-Day and End-of-Day Disinfection of all high-touch surfaces throughout the building, including door knobs, railings and bathrooms.

Practice Social [Physical] Distancing

  • Social interaction between teacher and student and between students is critical to the classroom/teaching environment.

  • Hallways clearly marked for proper traffic flow and social distancing reminders.

  • Students in grades PK-8th will be required to bring a full water bottle to school. Water fountains will not be used.

  • Students are encouraged to have a small pencil sharpener with a lid and travel-sized tissue pack with them. Other supplies will be provided to all students and will be stored in individual storage containers.

  • Desks in rows where possible, distanced 5-6 feet apart. Furniture eliminated to maximize learning space and allow for greater distancing.

  • Barriers between students will be installed in classrooms where student enrollment is higher to maintain maximum distancing.

  • Classrooms with large enrollment will be divided into 2 classes to maintain proper social distancing.

  • Recess periods may be shorter, but more frequent since students will be at their same desks most of the day.

  • No field trips until further notice.

  • No visitors without a scheduled appointment.

  • Drop off of forgotten items will be managed through the main school entrance. Items should be marked with the child(ren)'s name on them and left in a marked bin outside the main doors.

Implement Face Coverings Policy

  • Masks and/or face shields will be worn by all teachers and staff as required by the state.

  • All students PK-8th grade are required to wear masks at arrival and dismissal, or while moving about the building (e.g. hallways, restrooms, within the classroom when distancing cannot be maintained)

  • All students Grades K - 8th grade must wear masks in addition to the above times, unless they cannot for medical or developmental reasons.

    • I am encouraging parents to please talk with your child(ren) about the importance of wearing a mask.

  • Mask style/design must be school appropriate for students who attend a Catholic school (there is no OLMC uniform mask).

  • Students should carry one or two back-up masks with them in a resealable plastic bag, marked with their name and left in their book bag.
