Troubleshooting

After making sure (if you can) you have saved open documents or bookmarked websites, the best thing to do is to shutdown your computer.

The “Soft” Shutdown: Navigate to the start menu (click on the start button on the lower left corner of your screen). Navigate to the “Shut down” option. Wait 10 seconds (letting the hard drive power down) and turn your computer back on. We recommend you first try a “soft” shutdown and use the “hard” shutdown if that doesn’t work.

The “Hard” Shutdown: This restart requires physically holding the power button down until your computer goes off. Wait 10 seconds (letting the hard drive power down) and turn your computer back on. A hard shutdown is sometimes required when your computer is not responding to any keyboard or mouse commands.

Checking Wires: If something doesn't seem to be working correctly, checking the wires that connect your computer to various components (keyboard, mouse, speakers, projector, etc.) is a critical step in determining what the problem might be. The document below will provide you with some helpful images and information that can guide the process.
