The purpose of social skills is to provide additional assistance to students in the skills we use to communicate and interact with peers and adults, both verbally and non-verbally , through our words and body language.
Students in social skills may develop their social competencies to improve social awareness, both of themselves and others, social-emotional understanding, self-regulation, perspective taking, and executive functioning skills. These skills will help your child learn throughout their school day during individual, partner and group work, and during whole group instruction, both in and outside their classrooms.
Students in social skills typically meet in a small group once a week for thirty minutes. Lessons are typically teacher created based on students individual needs.
