Developing a Strategic Plan
We are getting into the part of the co-op experience that has you thinking about what is next? Up to this point you have planned, researched, chatted, brainstormed, etc. and now you have an idea and a direction. However, without a solid plan to guide you to that desired outcome your success will be challenged.

Module 5: Activity 1
A SWOT Analysis is used in project management just before making a plan. It helps you take one last look at your project and think about how things might go before you start taking action.
Usually, SWOT is done for big projects or companies, but you can make it simple for your project.
For some Lens or topics, it will be easy; for others, it might be harder. Sometimes you’ll need to focus on the details of your idea, and other times think about the big picture.
Please connect with your co-op teacher if you are struggling with this step.
Duration: 5:56
This is a video found in this article that breaks down a SWOT analysis with examples. There are also links to resources in the video link

Module 5: Activity 2
Start by considering the end goal then work back to help you get there
Structure a plan with specific deadlines based on your proposed solution
It will be important to ensure you are giving yourself enough time to get feedback on your 'output' or 'solution' before the end of the term - this feedback should be implemented where possible.
Break down all elements of your project clearly into workable sections - Keeping in mind the Critical Path rule for timing when thinking of activities
Be specific; it is better than being too BIG PICTURE because you will miss things that may be time consuming resulting in a hold up in progress
Anticipate resources required in your list.
Resources can be physical like products or a location, or they can be people and skills like clients or supports
Strategic plan steps should fall within the time frame of your co-op course
It will be important to ensure you leave time at the end of your course (approx. 1/2 weeks) to develop a pitch presentation
Strategic plan should build in check in points for the rest of the term with your co-op teacher and or industry partner, these help to break down barriers and get support and guidance throughout the process.
Activity
Below you will find some templates for your Strategic Plan. You can choose to use these or develop your own with similar elements.
Put your plan directly into your workbook or link it to an external document that your co-op teacher and mentor can access when needed.
