How to access Brightspace:

You must be signed into your @stu.ocsb.ca Google account. Go to www.google.ca and click 'Sign In' if you are not already signed in.
From the Home page of the Student Hub, the Brightspace icon is the first in the row at the top.
If you are signed into a non-OCSB account, you will get an error. Go back and sign into your school account, then enter Brightspace.
Look for the waffle icon at the top (9 small squares arranged in a 3 x 3 arrangement) and click to get a list of available courses. Click on your course.

Navigating Content

You will notice that your course is organized in the Table of Contents according to Units and Lessons/Activities.

Table of Contents:

Click on Content in the navbar at the top.
Click on the Unit and the Lesson/Activity that you wish to visit.

Please note in most courses you must complete the assignments in the Orientation unit before the course lessons will appear in the Table of Contents.

Assignments

Where can I find my Assignments?

Please refer to the individual course instructions for where to find assignments. Assignment formats can vary from course to course, but will usually be in one of the following formats:

Questions within the course content itself
Questions within the quiz tool
Questions within a separate workbook or assignment document which should be downloaded

How do I submit an assignment to a dropbox?

Complete your assignment and save in a single file in either .docx or .pdf format.
If your assignment has been handwritten (and if your teacher accepts handwritten work), please see the 'How to Scan to a single pdf' section of the Training page.
Go to the Dropbox icon in the navbar at the top of Brightspace.
Click on the assignment that you wish to submit.
Click Add a File (see image below).

Select the source for your file. If you have the file downloaded onto your own computer, use My Computer. If you have completed your assignment in Google Docs, use Google Drive.
If you do not have the Google Drive option, please see the 'How to link Google to Brightspace' on the Getting Started page.

Once the file is uploaded, it will show up on the dropbox page. Click Submit (see image above).
You can check if the file is submitted by going back through the Dropbox icon and looking under 'Completion Status'. This will indicate if there has been a submission and how many files were uploaded.

How do I find my feedback?

To see feedback on your Dropbox assignment, go to the Dropbox icon. To the right of the assignment under the column 'Evaluation Status' click on Unread (if you have never looked at the feedback) or Read (if you have previously looked at the feedback).

Quizzes

Some St. Nicholas courses use quizzes. The Quizzes tool may be used:

As an assignment on its own where students will see the questions and put the answers into the Quizzes tool
As a means to deliver assignment questions to students who must then write their answers on paper and upload the answers to the dropbox

Read the instructions on the quiz carefully or ask your teacher for directions.

How do I use the Quizzes tool?

You may be able to access a quiz through a link in the Brightspace lesson or by going to the Quizzes icon in the navbar and selecting a quiz from the list by clicking on the quiz name.
Read through the instructions and note the time limit (if there is one), and the number of attempts you are permitted then click on Start Quiz at the bottom of the screen.
Answer each question, scrolling through the pages where necessary, then click Submit Quiz.
You will be asked to Confirm your Quiz Submission. Click Submit Quiz again.

How can I view feedback or go back to review questions on a quiz?

To see feedback on your quiz, go to the Quizzes icon. To the right of the assignment under the column 'Evaluation Status' click on the blue link next to Feedback.

Depending on the settings set by your teacher, you will be able to see your mark and you may be able to see all or some of the questions from the quiz.
