Drawing

Prerequisite: Art Foundations

(9221S) Grades 9, 10, 11, 12

The focus of this course is to apply and build on the drawing skills and techniques learned in Art Foundations. Portraiture, figure studies, still life, stenciling, and fantasy studies will be covered along with color concepts. Students will have the ability to work with graphite, ink, micron pen, marker, chalk/oil pastel, and colored pencil.  Students will engage in personalized research and study contemporary and historical art practices related to drawing.

Painting

Prerequisite: Art Foundations, Drawing Recommended

(9222S) Grades 9, 10, 11, 12

Painting offers a wide range of visual and expressive experiences. This course is designed to help students acquire knowledge of painting techniques used by the old master artists as well as an appreciation of current 20th century trends. Students will have the ability to work with acrylic paint, watercolor, gouache and oil paint.

Drawing and Painting Studio is designed for the advanced and motivated drawing or painting student. This course gives students the opportunity to work independently to develop a 2D art portfolio that can be used for college and career applications. Students will conduct personal research on how to master new skills of their choice with the guidance of their teacher.  Work produced in this class may be considered for permanent mural displays around OCHS. Typically, students participate in The Memory Project to create a portrait as a gift for a child in another country.
