Autism Response Team

The OCEC has an Autism Response Team to assist parents, staff and schools working with students identified with autism or autism like tendencies. The Autism team is made up of Parents, Teachers, Social Workers, Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Administration from the OCEC. Members of the Autism Team have had basic level team training through the Illinois Autism/PDD Project Training and Technical Assistance Team, TEACCH Training Greenville, North Carolina, Level 1 autism training cycle through Little Friends as well as attendance at regional and national trainings and workshops.

The Autism Team provides: Teacher and paraprofessional introductory training, assistance to parents, inclusion support, strategies and interventions in best practices for students on the autism spectrum, sensory strategies, diets and menus.

The Autism Team will: Conduct large and small workshops for school staff, parents and community members.

The Autism Team will: Conduct on site consultations and observations and follow up with a team approach decision making process which includes support and strategy development to assist schools and parents.

The Autism Team has created a library of books and materials teachers and parents can access for support. The library is located in the OCEC.
