My Pet Fish

by Sophie C.

Some kids have dogs or cats or snakes but I have a pet fish. His name is Oreo. I know what you're thinking: Oreo, like the food? No, just Oreo. We got the name by what he looks like. He is black and white.

Good and Bad Things about Having a Fish

A good thing is they are quiet, not like a dog or cat. You feed them three times a day. I know, I know you are all like, “Fish die in three days.” “Why have fish when you can have a dog or cat?” That's not true… They can live longer than you think. My fish has lived for almost a year. His birthday is November 5. He is a betta fish. So if you want a pet, but your mom and dad do not because they are too loud, tell them to get a fish. A bad thing is you can't pet them. But there are a lot of good things about fish.

How to take Care of a Pet: Dogs

by Connor J. and Sophie C.

Puppies

Okay, so you’ve just given your parents reasons to get a dog. Somehow, it worked. But you still don’t really know how to take care of a puppy. What do you do? Well, you’ve come to the right article!

Let’s say that you’re getting a puppy right after it’s of age to get adopted, 7 to 9 weeks. You have to get food and drink bowls, dog food, and a bed. That is the first thing you do, preferably before you even get the dog. Get your dog a collar, too. Just in case they run away, you’ll have its name and your phone number on the back.

Before you get your pup, get them toys. When they start teething, they will most likely teeth on the toys, not your $7500 leather couch. The money part was an exaggeration. Get them squeaky toys, maybe a stuffed bear, and a good thing is that you can get them at PetSmart, PetCo, Pet Supplies Plus, etc. Also, don’t get them low-quality food. Get them good quality. Don’t get food at the dollar store. Get it at Costco or any of the stores I mentioned for toys because they definitely have dog food.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST… get your furry friend some treats! Treats will be a good reward for being a good boy/girl that day and for training.

You get a loving, adorable dog. Your perfect angel… well… that might not be true at the moment, because you know that some dogs will scratch at furniture and chew on stuff. Some prefer sofas. Also, PLEASE POTTY TRAIN YOUR PUPPY! Otherwise, your house will have pee stains, or it might poop on the floor. Do you want that? Obviously not. Get them in the backyard, or take them on a walk.

It may take a while to train your dog to sit, lie down, stay, or roll over. But if they do eventually do the trick, give ‘em a treat!

Adult Dogs

As your sweet companion gets older, it may be prone to getting diseases. Make sure you get a good veterinarian and get your dog its shots so that it can live as long as it can.

Another thing is that as they get really old (over 13), they may forget their tricks and lose interest in playing ball or something. Also, it might hurt itself going down or upstairs, and if you have stairs leading to your backyard, they can possibly slip.

But I’m getting ahead of myself, let’s talk about dogs 4-10, which is the beginning of adulthood. Your dog is probably fully trained right now, and most likely is following you everywhere you go. Following means that it’s attached to you. Attached means love. THEY LOVE YOU!

So, you get a puppy, but WHAT KIND DO YOU WANT TO GET?! Husky, Golden Retriever, Cocker Spaniel, Pitbull, Shiba Inu, etc.
