Policies and Procedures
Grading Policy:
- Daily Grade (90% of Marking Period/Quarter Grade)
- Preparation (3 points) - Students must change into acceptable physical education attire every day. Not changing into athletic clothing will result in a 3 point deduction from the daily grade.
Physical education attire:
- Sneakers
- Athletic shorts or sweatpants
- Athletic shirt or sweatshirt
*Students who do not have sneakers, regardless of whether or not they dress for class, will not receive any daily grade points (-8).
- Participation (5 points) – Students must show a high level of participation and effort in all activities and assessments. Students not participating fully in all class activities may lose up to 5 points from their daily grade.
Daily Participation includes the following:
- Participation in the class Warm-up.
- Participation in chosen Activity.
- Participation in any given physical assessment.
*Students who choose to sit out for the entire period, regardless of whether or not they are prepared for class, will not receive any daily grade points (-8).
- Physical Education Log (10% of Marking Period/Quarter Grade)
- Students will be expected to create and submit a Physical Education Log for each Marking Period/Quarter of Physical Education (not Health). If a student does not submit a PE Log, it will result in a 10 point deduction off the Marking Period/Quarter grade (-10).
- Final Exam: the final exam is 20% of the overall grade for physical education and health.
*Failure to take the final exam will result in a forced failure of the course.
Absentee Policy:
- Students will be given two days absent per marking period/quarter without a grade penalty.
- The third absence and everyone thereafter, must be made up.
- Students who do not make up absences (after the first 2) will not receive any daily grade points for each day not made up.
Tardy and Leaving Early from class:
- Students who miss half the class (42 minutes) by arriving late or leaving early will be expected to complete a 30 minute make up after the first 2 days of being absent or being tardy or leaving early from class (whichever comes first).
- Students who do not make up required class time will lose half of the daily grade points (4 points) for each day not made up.
*Three incidents of tardiness (less than 20 minutes after the class has started) will be considered 1 class absence (see student handbook).
* Tardy over 20 minutes is considered 1 class absence (see student handbook).
*Leaving early from class after 20 minutes is considered 1 absence (see student handbook).
Class cuts:
- Students who cut class will not receive any daily grade points.
- Cuts cannot be made up.
- School discipline policy will be in effect (see student handbook).
Physical Education Make-up Policy - unprepared days, absences and tardy/leaving early (missing half the class).
Make-up Options:
Option A: After School workout using school facilities and supervised by a staff member.
- Make-ups will be conducted after school during faculty extra help days.
- Students will have until the end of a marking period (semester students) or quarter (red/white students) to make up any day(s) that they are unprepared absent (after the first 2 absences).
- Make-ups will be 30 minutes long.
- Students must be changed into physical education attire and give full effort on make-up days in order receive points back.
- Students will receive a total of 4 points after completion of one make-up.
Option B: Outside of School workout using Endomondo mobile application:
- Make-ups will be conducted outside of school on student’s own time.
- Students will have until the end of a marking period (semester students) or quarter (red/white students) to make up any day(s) (after the first 2 absences).
- Make-ups for absences and unprepared days will be 60 minutes long but exercise does not have to be continuous (exercise can be broken down into two 30 minute segments).
- Make-ups for tardy/leaving early (missing half the class) will be 30 minutes long.
- You must provide evidence of your workout by taking an Endomono screenshot(s) and by providing a picture(s) of you working out.
- You must complete and submit a Physical Education Make-up Form signed by a parent or guardian.
- Students will receive a total of 8 points after completion of one 60 minute make-up.
- Students will receive a total of 4 points after completion of one 30 minute make-up.
Option C: Written Assignment (for approved absences only):
- A doctor’s note or nurse’s must be submitted.
- See Medical Excuse Writing Requirements.
- 1 paper is required for each approved absence (after the first 2).
Rules and Safety:
- Students are not permitted to touch or climb on any PE equipment unless used under the supervision of a teacher.
- Appropriate behavior is expected in the locker rooms at all times.
- Students must supply their own lock for the PE lockers. All locks must be removed at the end of each class period. The school is not responsible for lost or stolen items in the locker room.
- Do not bring expensive items or large amounts of money to PE class. Never leave anything in an unlocked locker.
- Locker rooms will be locked at the beginning of each class period. Students arriving tardy to class without a pass will be locked out of the locker room and considered unprepared.
- No Jewelry, hats, or hoods may be worn.
- No gum chewing is permitted in the gym, wrestling room or weight room.
- Food and beverages are not allowed in the locker rooms, gymnasium or weight room.
- Cell phones or other electronic devices are only permitted at the teacher’s request.
