Policies and Procedures
Course Overview: The 9th grade health curriculum will provide you with the opportunity to improve your knowledge and understanding in Addiction as a disease, Sexually Transmitted Disease and Pregnancy and Childbirth. Emphasis will be placed on utilizing this information for your lifelong personal health and wellness.
Absentee Policy: All students are fully responsible for any missed work due to absences, regardless of the reason. All work can be found on the teachers Google Classroom. Any missing assignments will revert to zero.
Class Rules:
- Be on time
- Do not eat in class
- Submit assignments on time
- Sit in your assigned seat
- No cell phones are to be used in class unless related to educational purposes and directed by the teacher
Course Requirements:
- Bring a pencil/pen, notebook (paper) and 2 pocket folder to every class
- Bring your Chromebook or other personal computer to class every day
- Maintain and keep a health folder with all notes, handouts, classwork and projects
- Sign on and stay updated with Google Classroom
- Maintain a 70 or above
Course Content:
- Addiction
- Recognize the 3 stages of dependency & symptoms of withdrawal.
- Realize consequences of drinking & driving.
- Understand short & long term effects of tobacco use.
2. Psychoactive Drugs
- Organize drugs into classifications
- Comprehend drugs impact on health
- Drugs impact on self and society
- Devise plan for prevention
3. Sexually Transmitted Infections
- Compare viral & bacterial STI’s
- Understand signs & symptoms
- Realize short & long term consequences
- Analyze behaviors that lead to HIV/AIDS
- Discuss risk reduction
4. Pregnancy and Childbirth
- Describe fetal development from conception to birth
- List the 3 stages of labor
- Understand role of genes & heredity
- Compare twin development
- Realize impact of teen pregnancy
