Explore the fundamentals of songwriting with Métis-francophone musician Andrina Turenne.
Weaving together raw emotion, a connection to nature, and many experiences travelling, Andrina’s music is lyrical and distinct. Originally from St. Boniface, Manitoba, Andrina honed her talents with the Juno award-winning ensemble Chic Gamine, and she is now telling her own story as a solo artist.
In this songwriting workshop series, singer-songwriter Ila Barker introduces the main elements of song structure including rhyming, freewriting, melody and more.
With soul and voice well beyond her years, Winnipeg folk artist Ila Barker captures audiences with her sweet melodies and dynamic presence. Ila is of mixed Ojibwe and settler heritage with roots running deep in the prairies, bringing tones of rich history and texture to her craft.
A unique opportunity for students with special needs to explore string, woodwind, brass or percussion instruments in a supportive and professional environment while developing their auditory, motor, social and motivation skills through hands-on workshops with a trained NAC Orchestra musician and a special needs music educator. This series, available throughout the school year, consists of two interactive workshops and one culminating event/performance led by an NAC Orchestra ensemble of professional musicians from the community. When possible, an instrument fair will also be offered in which students can try the featured instrument(s). Presented in partnership with the Lotus Centre for Special Music Education.
