Terrance Rogers - Fall 2023

Terrance's educational background consists of an AA in Psychology, BA in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Mindfulness, and is currently completing his MA in clinical psychology with a concentration in Mindfulness.  Terrance is an intern student at Governors State University (GSU).  He will receive his MA in clinical psychology in May, 2024. He has chosen to complete his internship with Obsidian Holistic due to his understanding of their Relational-Cultural Conceptualization. The theoretical framework of Relational Cultural Theory (RCT) advocates for the cultivation of interpersonal connections that are characterized by genuineness, reciprocal understanding, active involvement, and a heightened awareness of relational dynamics.

Terrance Rogers is currently employed as a Behavior Therapist (BT) who excels at working in a fast-paced, dynamic, and often intense environment, and provides Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) treatment to children diagnosed with language, communication, behavioral and developmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder.

Terrance believes that through psychoeducation, awareness training, and learning to love oneself is the key to helping many clients that feel confused, troubled with symptoms, or stuck in life, and can’t seem to move on. This training has allowed clients to become more productive and at peace with themselves and life in general. Problems are a part of life, and we will always have them. But one of the biggest problems in life is many do not know how to cope with their problems. Providing clients with an awareness of their own toolbox that will allow them to cope with, and minimize the symptoms that bring much pain and suffering is where Terrance comes in.

Terrance also has experience working with Depression, Anxiety, Co-occurring disorders, PTSD, and many psychological and personality disorders. Terrance is familiar with Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Exposure Therapy.

Terrance has helped adults with serious (and persistent) mental disorders offering a setting in which clients become “members” and equal partners with staff. Being partnered with clients in the rehabilitation process thereby increases client ownership, esteem, and investment in their recovery. Promoting guidance and coordination for clients ensures positive mental health and well-being.

Ruben Lopez - Summer 2024

Ruben M. Lopez is currently in his third year of the Clinical Psychology Master’s program at Governors State University (GSU). He has worked with survivors of sexual trauma since 2019. Ruben makes efforts to incorporate creativity and art into his work. Ruben was born and raised in Chicago and lived across the Chicagoland areas before moving to the South Suburbs in 2018. Ruben is of Puerto Rican and Mexican descent and a first-generation college student. In the summer of 2020, Ruben completed his associates at Prairie State College (PSC), where he learned the importance of community connection and social support systems. Then, Ruben transferred to GSU in the fall of 2020 term to complete his bachelors. Ruben’s research focuses include gender-based violence, male incarceration, clinical treatments, and pedagogy. Ruben hopes to earn a doctorate in clinical psychology and later focus on community prevention programs. Additional interest includes posttraumatic stress disorder, social anxiety, and complex trauma. In clinical practice, Ruben believes that invalidating environments and emotional dysregulation contribute to mental illnesses. Ruben also believes individuals feel better when provided with the skills to regulate their emotional states, provided with validation of their emotional experiences, and given tools for coping. He aims to create an inclusive, safe, and welcoming therapeutic environment to service members of the LGBTQPIA+ community and anyone who might fear seeking mental healthcare. Ruben is bilingual English/Spanish.
