Fall 2026: Thursdays at 6pm in Bibbins 238
(semester II of the four semester sequence)
There are many dates this semester where there are large ensemble concerts at 7:30, so I have not scheduled a class on those days. There are also conflicts with two divisional recitals. If you want to perform in the divisional on Sept 17, hopefully you can play in excerpt class first and then run off to the divisional. The other divisional on Dec 19 is a very long concert, so it should be possible to do both.
August 27: Mozart's Expositions: either concerto, movement 1 or 2
September 3: Beethoven: Leonore Overture No. 3 (allegro section)
September 10: Bizet: Carmen; Entra’cte (prelude to act III)
September 17: Debussy: Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune (opening, through figure 3)
October 1: Hindemith: Symphonic Metamorphosis (mvt. III)
October 8: Mendelssohn: Midsummer Nights Dream; scherzo
October 15: Alexa on tour
November 12: Prokofieff: Peter and the Wolf (first excerpt)
November 19: Rossini: William Tell, Overture
December 3: Shostakovich: Symphony 5 (mvt.s I, II, III)

For advance preparation, listen to MANY recordings and study full scores. For Alexa's fake fingerings and practice hints, please see http://www.alexastill.com/excerpts/excerpts.html
Orchestral audio tracks of the relevant bits can be found in the link in each semester's rep listed below (after photo). - You should ALSO listen to entire works to get a sense of scale, proportion and to understand the style!
