We expect scholars to be involved in community service for approximately 8-10 hours per week, totaling 240 hours for the academic year. Scholars will be allowed to choose from any number of service opportunities in the local community, such as America Counts, America Reads, Boys and Girls Club, El Centro De Servicios Sociales, Family Planning Services, Kendal Retirement Community, and Oberlin Community Services.
As a Bonner Scholar, you will also:
Complete two summers of service, each consisting of at least seven weeks of full-time community service, totaling 280 hours. Scholars work with the Bonner Scholars Program Director, Bonner Scholars Program Coordinator, and the Bonner Leadership Team to locate appropriate placements.
Participation in enrichment activities and meetings planned by Oberlin College, the Bonner Scholars, and the Bonner Scholars Program director and coordinator.
Arrive at Oberlin before first-year orientation to attend a special New Bonner Orientation.
