Students selected to be part of the Bonner Scholars Program are expected to:
Complete 140 community engagement hours per semester (~10 hours per week). Expectations related to hour completion include:
First Year Bonners do not have a limit to the amount of Training & Enrichment (T&E) hours that can count towards their total 140.
After the first year, Bonner Scholars can log 40 hours of T&E towards their total 140.
Students can "roll over" 30 hours of service from Winter Term.
Students should log 20 self-care hours per semester.
Participate in enrichment, training and reflection activities planned by the Oberlin College, the Bonner Scholars and Bonner Scholars Program staff.
Complete two summers of service at a non-profit or NGO in any part of the world. The expectation is 280 hours of community service for each of the two summers.
You can "roll over" 30 hours after your initial 280 of Summer Service towards your Fall service hours.
First Year:
Attend Bonner orientation, which takes place a few days before Oberlin College’s First Year Orientation (meals and housing provided)
Enroll in and complete Introduction to Bonner Life (Oberlin College course credit offered)
Go on the First Year Trip, which takes place during spring break
Sophomore Year:
Attend the Sophomore Exchange (event changes year to year)
Attend the Sophomore Recommitment meeting
Junior Year:
Participate in the Junior Class Project (project changes year to year)
Senior Year:
Prepare and present a Senior Presentation of Learning to the rest of the Oberlin College Bonners & Stakeholders
