Within our WW1 unit we look, briefly, at the causes of WW1, then mover on to study what the conditions were like for soldiers living in trenches on the Western Front. This includes trench life. Next we focus on the Battle of the Somme and students will decide if General Haig deserved to be remembered as the "Butcher of the Somme". Towards Christmas we will also look at the medical advancements that were made through WW1.
Research a famous WW1 battle that took place on the Western Front (not the Somme). Explain why the battle took place, the main events within the battle and the consequences of it. You may choose to look at one of the following:
The Battle of Passchendaele
The First Battle of Ypres
Create a profile of General Haig. Include his military experience before WW1, the battles he was involved in during WW1 and his career after WW1.
Investigate two medical advance that occured due to WW1. Create a pamphlet that covers both.
