February-June 2020 Long Term
Wiley Elementary in Utica Community Schools, 5th Grade
During my original long-term placement at Dresden Elementary, the principal suggested my name for another long term where I would be teaching in another 5th grade class inside the district. For the remainder of the school year, I taught at Wiley Elementary.
In each of the two 5th grade classes with 30 students, I taught ELA using the district provided reading program, Wonders.
For writing, I was told I could teach whatever way I thought was best for the students. When the pandemic first broke out, I discovered a writing program called EB Academics. I decided to use this program as long as I worked along with the district pacing guide.
I created weekly Newsletters that would be sent home at the beginning of the week. The newsletter contained Wonders key concepts for the week, essential questions, writing focus, and the Greek or Latin root words we were doing that week.
Created fun writing pieces that students were able to publish in their writing board book.
Involved in an IEP meeting and provided feedback for one of my students.
Signed permanent records at the end of the year.
Conducted spring conferences.
In the classroom, I used TeacherMade, Schoology, Microsoft Teams, OneNote
Started each day with a riddle or joke. The students had the whole day to figure out what it could mean then they would guess as the class lined up to leave.
MSTEP training, so I could administer the test in May.
