In the future, I hope I am able to teach in an upper elementary classroom where I am able to create a welcoming environment where the students truly want to learn.
Starting in January, I will be taking a leap by teaching 6th grade math at Burr Elementary until May. I am looking forward to the opportunity and can't wait to see what the students have to teach me!
By the end of my student teaching, my supervisor, mentor, and I evaluated my overall knowledge, skills, and behaviors. We assessed my planning for instruction and assessment, instructional delivery, assessment, analysis of teaching, professional commitment and behaviors, professional relationships, and critical thinking and reflective practice. Overall, we decided that I exceed expectations in 18/21 domains. The remaining three we decided that I was meeting expectations, but I could improve.
Differentiated methods:
In the future, I need to focus on how I can better differentiate instruction and assessments for students of higher needs.
Checking for understanding and adjusting instruction through formative assessment:
Towards the end of the semester, I improved on administering formative assessments such as entry/exit tickets where students would need to answer a question on the lesson they just learned. Typically, I would feel stuck in the feeling that I need to keep to my lesson plans and overall pacing guide and could not get over the feeling that I had to stick to the plan. Moving forward, I need to be more flexible in being able to change instruction based on the needs of the students.
Demonstrates punctuality:
Another area I need to improve on is demonstrating punctuality in terms of being able to grade assignments within two days then updating PowerSchool. I am still figuring out how to improve on time management after school in terms of being able to grade assignments faster. The other part to punctuality is making sure that I update the online grade book, so parents are able to see their child's grades. Moving forward, I will focus on improving my system of grading assignments then entering the grades online.
