During my journey to develop my professional skills, I completed a 3 month Coursera course detailing personalized medicine, the context behind which it is required, and the possible steps to achieving it.
My mission involves the development of medicines with the ability of personalization being a function. Therefore, to gain the necessary context as well as find the relevant experts on what is needed to push personalization, I decided to select this course.
I was able to learn about different case studies that showcased to me the defects that led to the necessity of personalization. It also led me to understand the importance of personalization of medicines to create treatments that include all people.
The course gave me the necessary understanding of the genetic defects that occur in people who require personalized medicine as well as the hurdles I would need to cross to finish the personalization aspect of my mission.
Additionally, I attended the 2023 Annual AIChE Student Conference in Orlando, where I was able to network with researchers and gain insight into the newer developments in the pharmaceutical world.
This allowed me to both network with industry professionals and gauge which fields of the pharmaceutical world possesses the greatest potential to innovate.
