The Fall 2025 class schedule will be available on ALBERT on March 24th.
Keep track of registration dates on the Counseling@NYU Academic Calendar. Pay particular attention to the dates when the ALBERT class schedule is published, and when registration begins.
Start planning for registration early! Always have a plan-b in place in case you do not get into your first choice of class sections.
Please be sure to check the ALBERT course notes and add back up courses to your shopping cart, if needed. Some courses will be restricted to specific programs until a specified date.
Advisor holds: Students will be required to meet with their advisor individually before registering. Your advisor will be in touch with you to provide instructions.
Your Student Success Advisor should be your first point of contact for any and all registration questions, comments, or concerns.
Please note:
It is Departmental policy that registration-related requests are not made directly to instructors. Requests made directly to instructors will not be considered.
Registration times are assigned by the NYU Registrar. The department cannot change your appointment time.
Students can take up to 6 credits outside of the department. Please be sure you are not above this threshold if you are considering classes outside of Applied Psychology.
Our most successful students dedicate 10-20 hours per class per week outside of their class meetings.
Prioritize completing the pre-internship courses as you begin the program.
Review a sample schedule for full-time students.
Part-time students should prioritize completing pre-internship courses, then intermediate and advanced courses. Consult with your academic advisor before registering to ensure you are making satisfactory progress towards internship and graduation.
Consider travel time needed to get to and from field placements. This should include rush hour traffic patterns.
During field placement interviews, students are strongly encouraged to discuss the anticipated field placement schedule and provide information about their expected course load. Students should inform their field placement supervisor of their course schedules immediately following registration.
Consider outside obligations and how they may impact your course obligations (e.g., child care, partner's work schedule, family care, etc.).
The Department does not over-enroll closed courses. If your preferred class section is closed, please register for an open section and use the waitlist and edit/swap functions on ALBERT.
The department cannot accommodate class conflicts with work schedules due to the great variety of preferences. To arrange the best possible course schedule, we encourage students to:
Register immediately at their listed appointment time.
Communicate scheduling needs with their employer.
Consider opportunities for flexibility (e.g., utilizing a lunch break).
Please note that the ALBERT system may list holds placed on your account from different NYU offices. It is important to click for more details to view more information about the hold and instructions for resolving it. The details will include contact information for the appropriate NYU office for further assistance.
Common Holds:
Enrollment Mismatch: This hold means that the number of credits you have registered for does not match what you are expected to be enrolled in (ie, if you are waitlisted for a class, there is a good chance you might get an Enrollment Mismatch). This hold will not prevent registration. See instructions for removing the Enrollment Mismatch Hold.
Advisor (XAC): This hold will be removed prior to the start of registration, provided that you've followed the instructions above. It will be removed before your assigned appointment time. Please do not make an appointment with your academic advisor to remove XAC holds. You can expect to see this hold on your account every term.
Not Financially Cleared: This hold is typically removed within one business day of payment.
Student Misconduct Training: This hold can be removed through completion of the "Think About It" sexual misconduct training, accessible here:
If you see any holds on your account that are not listed here, please refer to the corresponding information provided in the note section and reach out to the office and/or email provided. Additionally, if you are still unable to determine the hold, please send a screenshot to Student Success.
For holds related to a past-due balance, contact the Bursar's Office.
Your plan of study lists when you will be taking electives each term.
You are expected to register for your selected electives. If you are uncertain which electives you are slated to take or have not yet submitted your elective choices, please reach out to your Student Success Advisor to ensure that you register correctly.
Half-time Equivalency (HTE) will be provided to students in Internship if total enrollment is less than 4.5 credits for the term. No action is required on your part to receive HTE unless previously discussed with your academic advisor. For questions regarding how HTE impacts scholarships or financial aid, please contact the Office of Financial Aid or your scholarship provider.
Steps to taking a leave of absence:
Meet with your Student Success Advisor to discuss your leave of absence and determine an anticipated return date. Your SSA will provide you with a Custom Plan of Study to follow upon your return.
Submit a Leave of Absence on ALBERT following these instructions.
Please note: Students without an approved leave of absence may be discontinued from the program if they fail to register for multiple consecutive terms. If you are discontinued from the program, you will need to reapply for admission. We strongly recommend that students follow the leave of absence protocol if they plan to take off a semester or more from the program.
If you have a mental health diagnosis and need to take a leave of absence due to a mental health concern, you must contact Counseling & Wellness Services by calling 212-443-9999.
If you are taking a leave due to a physical health concern, see the instructions to request a Medical Leave of Absence.
