This training provides an overview of the key legal, ethical, and operational issues behavioral health professionals should understand when starting and maintaining a private practice in New York. Topics include selecting and maintaining an appropriate business structure (such as a Professional Limited Liability Company), implementing important practice documents and policies, hiring employees or independent contractors, and practicing across state lines.

This 60 minute presentation will first provide a brief introduction to the Internal Family Systems therapeutic model and describe the steps involved in getting certified in Internal Family Systems therapy. It will then be followed by an experiential practice in one aspect of the model. The workshop will conclude by sharing a case example where IFS was used to both conceptualize the case and provide the interventions throughout the treatment.
Rachel Rush has fifteen years of professional experience as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, graduating Cum Laude and majoring in Religious Studies. She received her Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from New York University. She has a Certificate in Relational Psychotherapy from the Stephen Mitchell Institute, a Certificate of Completion in Level 1 Internal Family Systems Therapy, and a Certificate of Completion in Somatic Experiencing Therapy (in the beginner and intermediate levels). She has a private psychotherapy practice and offers telehealth appointments throughout New York State. Prior to private practice, she worked for eight years as a Staff Therapist at Columbia University Counseling and Psychological Services. In addition, she also previously worked at Bellevue Hospital and The Center for Comprehensive Health Practice.
