Making Gay History: Before Stonewall

Drawing from interviews conducted by Eric Marcus, chronicled in Making History in 1992, Making Gay History in 2002, and subsequent podcast episodes, Making Gay History: Before Stonewall takes us back in time to the earliest days of the gay civil rights movement. Using the heartfelt stories of twenty people, the play carries us through the compelling events leading to the Stonewall Uprising in June 1969.

The rich tapestry that emerges from Making Gay History includes the inspiring voices of little-known teenagers and grandparents, journalists and housewives. Together, these many stories bear witness to a time of astonishing change, as gay and lesbian people have struggled against prejudice and fought for equal rights under the law.
