1. Divide students into groups of 4 students.
2. Distribute the Interview Protocol Worksheet and walk students through the following process:
a. Have students determine a school-related topic they are interested in researching. Provide some examples: school safety, cafeteria work, the main office, etc. Remind them that Ethnodrama is always about people talking about their lives and experiences.
b. Have each group develop a list of five research questions about their topic using the 5 Ws: Who, what, when, where, and why.
c. Based on their research questions, have students develop an interview protocol that will help them find answers to their research questions.
d. Have students brainstorm a list of three people they can interview.
3. Provide each group with three copies of the Interview Participant Consent Form. Assist them in adding their names as researchers to the form, and point out the bulleted list where each item must be initialed by the interview subject, and the signature and date lines that must be signed.
Provide time for students to complete the interviews. The interviews should be audio recorded, though video could work too – depending on the availability of technology.
