Our own project
Overall I think our group 'COOL' did an amazing job. This is our first attempt to build such a big yet well-functioned prototype, and we managed to adapt to this brand new form of product presentation(which is performance). Also, we made the performance as straightforward and simple as possible since we avoided having any 'Norman's Door'-type-of design in our artifact, so that all the buttons and attached components on the machine is very simplified and can be recognized for its usage effortlessly. Also, I believe the hidden background of global warming is really interesting and thought-provoking, tightly resonating with the background setting of 22nd century. Besides, we designed the fan to turn on automatically based on the scores players earned in these two games, so the reward is given back in the form of cool breeze, ensuring this artifact is highly interactive. To conclude, I think we created tight connections between the keywords 'offline communication' and 'interaction'.
This is a classic artifact that is pretty much timeless since offline connection bonding will always be a problem surrounded by humanistic romance and struggle. I suggested to our group that the core of our concept is to offer an opportunity for those who still hope to gain emotional value from offline bonding and encourage to break out of their shyness and comfort zone. Offline communication and interaction can be frightening, but it is also more powerful and influential than virtual online connections. In the end, we call out to everyone to reevaluate the precious real life connections and never let them go.
for another group
I am picking the work 'The Dinner' to do further analysis. It was presented by Xuer, Sarah, Sienna and Jacky. This is an art design of multiple pieces of table that will only stay together if all the diners put their smartphones on the little table and not to look at it during the dinner. It illustrated 'interaction' because the small table gives the reaction 'collapse' when any of the group members breaks the dinner rule and started to play with their phone.
The conflict and confronting plot in the performance really helped to gain a deeper understanding of how a design like this can foster offline communication. If there's any further improvements needed, I would say that not only can the number of table pieces can be more flexible, but also add some difficult small tasks for rebuilding the collapsed table, making the artifact more fun and challenging.
