THE CENTER CIRCL NYU
FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM (2025-2027)
The Center CIRCL Fellowship Program is a two-year, in-person opportunity open to Indigenous and non-Indigenous NYU students and faculty who are studying and working in ethical relation to Indigenous communities. To be eligible, participants must agree to hold their role for the entire two years, and be present in New York City for all of year one, and most of year two. There are other aspects of eligibility associated with each kind of fellowship, which can be found under the applications tab.
This is a competitive Fellowship Program and we will receive more applications from eligible candidates than we can appoint. Applicants will not receive feedback or a rationale from the committee if they are not selected.
For the 2025-2027 Center CIRCL Fellows opportunity, applicants are asked to meaningfully connect their proposed projects to the biennial theme "This City is So Indigenous". Learn more about the biannual theme here.
There are several ways for people at different career stages to be a Center CIRCL Fellow. To learn more about the types of fellowships, click here.

ABOUT CENTER CIRCL NYU
The purpose of the new Provostial Center for Collaborative Indigenous Research with Communities and Lands (Center CIRCL) is to grow the practice, theory, and reach of Indigenous studies and Indigenous research at New York University. Recognizing that research can have an important role in Indigenous communities’ efforts towards justice and creating the futures they desire, Center CIRCL is dedicated to supporting communities to address their research needs. Center CIRCL is a hub for both Indigenous study and Indigenous Studies. It is designed to support the proliferation of scholarship by Indigenous students, staff, faculty, artists, youth and community researchers at NYU. It is an intellectual homebase for all scholars who engage in Indigenous studies and seek to work alongside Indigenous communities to meet their research needs.
The goals of Center CIRCL are to provide forums for collaboration for Indigenous Studies scholars across campuses and to provide support for collaborations with Indigenous communities. We will know we have met these goals when NYU is well-known for collaborations with Indigenous communities (in the region, across North America, and in its global programs) and when NYU is considered a destination university for Indigenous peoples around the world, especially the children of our collaborators.
