Please read this section carefully to learn more about the opportunity to receive course releases as a Center CIRCL Faculty Fellow.
The Center Faculty Fellowship is designed to be paired with one course release and one month of summer salary to each Center Faculty Fellow for each of the two years.
Every School Dean supports the mission of the Fellowship, but Schools have specific eligibility requirements. If you are planning to apply, you are strongly encouraged to speak with your Department Chair, letting them know of your intentions to apply, and which semesters you would like to activate the course releases (one in AY 26 and one in AY 27), if awarded. All Schools will require Chair approval to activate the course release. Here is some additional information to be mindful of as you consider applying:
Overall, we will select up to 2 or 3 Center CIRCL Faculty Fellows from across the Schools, with no more than one Faculty Fellow coming from any particular School.
Potential applicants should also be aware of the following additional School-Specific Stipulations (in addition to Chair approval and one Fellow per School):
Global Public Health: In addition to Department Chair approval, approval is also needed from the Vice Dean of Academic Affairs and Vice Dean for Faculty Affairs
Arts and Science: Department Chair approval before application is required. If the selected Faculty Fellow already has a course reduction, they will not be eligible for additional course reduction through this Program. Only those currently teaching at a Full course load 2/2 will be eligible for a course release.
Gallatin: Gallatin especially encourages early career faculty, or those who have not previously held a research leave to apply. There can be flexibility in the timing of the course releases to combine with an already existing leave.
Tandon: Tandon has the right to fully consider any course release requests on a case-by-case basis.
Stern: Stern will not provide a course release to those who already have a course release through another mechanism. The Dean or Dean of Faculty will have the opportunity to review or approve any finalist that comes from Stern.
Steinhardt: Department Chair sign-off before application is required. The course release cannot allow someone to go below a 1:1 teaching load.
