Every other year, Center CIRCL will select a new theme lasting two years. Center programming, fellows, workshops, and other activities will be created to advance knowledge and research practice in relation to that theme. The Biennial Theme is a way to organize the content and themes of the speakers series, CIRCL Fellows, and other programming from the Center.Â
The first biennial theme will be "This City is So Indigenous" (September 1, 2025-August 31, 2027). This theme will allow events and fellows to focus on the Indigeneities that are so uniquely New York City. Projects might attend to the Lenape communities here and in diaspora, their histories and their ongoing presence and futures. Projects might also attend to the global diversity of Indigenous Peoples and families living in New York, including youth and families from the Latin American diaspora, and other communities.
