Below is a list of frequently asked questions and answers about the fellowship application process.
Given that this is a new program, we will update the FAQs as needed to ensure clarity for applicants.
I missed the application deadline, can I still apply?
No, unfortunately applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
Will you be providing feedback or contacting those who are not selected for the fellowship program?
Applicants will not receive feedback or a rationale from the committee if they are not selected. Applicants will receive an email notifying them that they have been selected or have not been selected.
Will this fellowship opportunity be offered again in the future?
Yes, the fellowship program is one of the NYU Center CIRCL's signature programs offered on a bi-annual basis in-line with our bi-annual theme.
I am not Indigenous, can I still apply to the fellowship programs?
Yes, the fellowship program is open to Indigenous and non-Indigenous NYU Students and Faculty who are studying and / or working in ethical relation to Indigenous communities. Within the application we will ask you to meaningfully describe your relationship and accountability to Indigenous communities.
I am an NYU student in a Masters Program, can I apply?
Due to the Fellowship Program having a 2 year commitment, we ask that students applying be in a 2+ year program or have 2+ years of their NYU study remaining.
I am not a student or faculty at NYU, but a student or faculty at another University, can I still apply?
No, unfortunately we can only accept students and faculty at New York University at this time. If you meet the eligibility requirements for the community-based researcher fellowship, you may apply there.
I am a recent graduate of New York University, can I apply to the fellowship programs?
Recent graduates who are eligible for the community-based researcher fellowship will be considered.
I am a student who will be studying abroad for a semester throughout the fellowship program, can I still apply?
We would strongly recommend applying when you can dedicate your attention to the fellowship program. To be eligible for the fellowship, participants must be present in New York City for all of year one, and most of year two. Priority will be given to those who can dedicate time to the fellowship program.

What are the date and time requirements for this program?
The Fellowship runs from September 1, 2025 - August 31, 2027. Fellows are expected to attend weekly 2-hour meetings during the first year. Fellowship meetings will be held quarterly in the second year. Fellows are expected to perform the necessary work to cultivate their projects outside of these meetings in order to participate and share updates during them. There may also be collaboration meetings and responsibilities to support and attend other Fellows' projects or public-facing events.
Do I need to have specific experience or be in a certain academic program to apply?
No. All NYU students and faculty who meet the eligibility requirements are welcome to apply to the fellowship program.
Are international applicants eligible to apply?
Yes, NYU international students are eligible to apply.
Are current NYU employees eligible to apply for the fellowship programs?
Yes, NYU employees who also meet program requirements are eligible to apply. The Community Based Researcher role is designed for someone who is not affiliated with NYU.

Who will review applications?
Applications will be reviewed by an internal selection committee consisting of NYU faculty and Center CIRCL staff. The Center CIRCL Fellows Selection Committee members are: Eve Tuck, Jane Anderson, Rebecca Goetz, Simón Trujillo, Matty Motelynski and Nicole Franklin (non-voting student member).
How many fellows are selected for the program?
For the initial fellowship cohort, there will be up to 2 - 3 Faculty Fellows, 2 Doctoral Student Fellows, 2 Undergraduate Student Fellows, and 1 Community-Based Researcher Fellow.
