For the past 11 years, I have been employed at Taipei American school as the Middle School Drama/theatre teacher. An important part of this job involves directing the annual play and musical production. As the director of the middle school musical, it is my responsibility to oversee the entire production. Some of these responsibilities include collaborating with the music director, vocal director, theatre manager, choreographer, costume designer, sound crew, the make-up artist as well as directing up to 110 students on stage. Leading the production team in these creative endeavors has seen us produce broadway classics such as The Wizard of Oz, Oliver, Annie, as well as contemporary titles such as Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, and Shrek. For a detailed catalog of shows produced please see here: Production Photos.
In deliberate contrast to the big-budget musical production, I also direct a Fall play in the smaller theatre. The creative focus here is on the actor's choices rather than any technical elements. In November 2020 I directed Appropriate Audience Behavior by Ian McWethy.
