Where it all starts: The Correlation Between Parenting Styles and ACEs - Adriana Gleeson
Adverse Childhood Childhood experiences are traumatic events that occur during adolescence and they are greatly influenced by the environment/ household that a child is raised in. In turn, parenting styles would have an impact on a child’s ACE score. I want to see how much different parenting styles influence the ACE score, if at all.My research takes a look at the correlation between adverse childhood experiences and three parenting styles: permissive, authoritarian, and authoritative. Using a google form survey with questions regarding demographics, and ACE screening as well parenting style classification to get my data. The only requirement for participants of the survey is that they are at least 18 years old. Once my data is collected I will run statistical tests to find the correlations between certain parenting styles and ACE scores.
What is the most important thing you have learned in Science Research?
The most important thing that I have learned in Science Research is how to communicate properly with scientists in my field. Through my finding a mentor process I have had to send out many emails to professionals in my field. Some of these people have wanted to have conversations with me however due to distance we had to find alternate ways of having a conversation that having an in person meeting. As a result, I have had numerous zoom meetings and phone calls.
