Action Step One

District Goal: Northwestern Local Schools appreciates that every child is unique with individualized needs and will provide educational opportunities, services and supports to meet the needs of our diverse learners.

Action Step: (Professional Development) Plan, organize, and implement ongoing needs-based employee development. (Including but not limited to… co-teaching, poverty training, trauma informed care, instructional training for all levels of learners, soft skills development, R-Factor Training, confidence and self-esteem building skills training, etc.)

Grade Level/Subject Area: Elementary

Indicators:

- Seeking out and hosting individuals or groups from outside the district to deliver high quality professional development that will assist in better working with students and their needs.

- Intentionally scheduling days for specific professional development.

- Development of TECIP (Traumatic Event Crisis Intervention Plan) and TECIP team.

- TECIP team will educate staff members on specific roles they will play in the plan.

- R Factor

- Attend and participate in R Factor online and in person trainings.

- Staff being trained by R Factor Train the Trainers

- Use i-Ready representatives to train ELA and Math teachers in better analyzing data to increase student achievement.

- Hosting summer book studies over topics such as poverty, soft skills and self-esteem building.

- Adopt or create a character building curriculum that can reach every student at the beginning of each school year.

- Continue to improve in areas of literacy and mathematics to support learning of those struggling to meet state learning standards for their grade level.

- Retain curriculum coaches in both ELA and Math to assist in training teachers to improve their instructional approaches.

- Receive professional development in areas of co-teaching and differentiation in order to reach the different learning styles of our student population.

- Sharon, Saunders (Curriculum Director), Building Level Admin, Elementary Teachers and academic coaches and other individuals outside Northwestern who can deliver high quality PD

Progress Monitoring:

- Development of R Factor throughout our building; Teachers, Support Staff, Students and Parents.

- Monitoring the process of co-teaching and differentiation and sharing these findings and techniques with the entire staff.

- Scheduling ELA and Math in-house trainings with academic coaches.
