Hurt vs. Injured

Hurt

Means that you are in a bit of pain, but there is no physical damage to your body that causes a loss of function.

Injured

  • Means there is some sort of damage that is not allowing your body to work properly.

  • We will never allow you to wrestle if you are injured.

We have a trainer on staff at Arbor View who must be consulted when there is an injury.

Concussions

  • Concussion concerns are to be taken seriously. The moment an athlete feels "off," we will be sending them to our athletic trainer.

  • If an athlete hits or bumps their head, they show any of these symptoms: Dilated Eyes, Nausea/vomiting, Headache, Sensitivity to Lights, Balance Problems/Dizzy, Feeling Foggy, Confusion, and Inability to Concentrate.

  • If an athlete is showing signs of a concussion IMMEDIATELY let a coach know if they are nearby. If a coach is not informed and the wrestler goes home still complaining of the symptoms, reach out to a coach and go to a hospital ASAP.

  • Wrestlers should not try to or continue to wrestle if they are at risk of a concussion.

  • We follow the concussion protocols with the athletic trainer.

  • We understand athletes want to continuing playing through the pain and think that there is nothing wrong with them. But that is not the case; these symptoms will worsen over time and will affect them in their adult life. We are trying to avoid that. They will have more matches in the future, they don't get another chance at a new body.
